North Hollywood Huskies’ first varsity basketball game is against West Adams. 

Boys varsity basketball is playing a neutral game on November 16, 4:30 PM, in the West Gym. This is a non-league game, however this will be the first varsity game of the year. 

Our boys basketball team did well last year, going 6-6 in the East Valley League, placing 4th. Overall, the Huskies had 10 wins and 13 losses. 

West Adams went against Annenberg on November 10, and they won 72-45. West Adams also went against Garfield on November 14, and they lost 24-62. However, their stats from last year shows that they got 4-7 in the Exposition League. Overall, they had 5 wins and 10 losses. 

A lot of our star players are returning, such as Alexander Espinoza, Abraham Metzger, Nikon Spasov, Ronnie Gipson, and Brenden Simson. 

According to MaxPreps, Alexander Espinoza had 9.4 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, 207 points, and 124 total rebounds. Abraham Metzger had a 42 field goal percentage. Nikon Spasov had 1.7 assists per game, 0.5 blocks per game, 69 free throw percentage, 38 assists, and 11 blocks. Ronnie Gipson had 1.2 steals per game, and 22 steals. Brenden Simson had a 34 3pt field goal percentage. 

The Huskies are led by Head Coach Donovan Womack, who plays basketball himself, and is a very talented coach. He has made sure our Huskies have been preparing for this year’s season, and are ready to take on any team. 

Number 12, Alexander Espinoza, says, “I feel pretty confident going into this game against West Adams, the reason being is because I believe that all of us together, as a team, have practiced very hard for a while and are prepared to start this season off strong, and prove to everyone to not count us out. We are much better than last season, and I believe that my team and I will prove that one game at a time, and that starts with this first game against West Adams.”

Number 32, Abraham Metzger, adds, “I feel pretty good about it. We faced them last year, and although they were a good team, we came out with the win. I think as long as we play as a team and stick to our game plan we will be good.”

Number 2, Brenden Simson, says, “Individually I’m feeling pretty confident, coming off a scrimmage game where I didn’t perform very well I’m looking to bounce back and start the season off strong. My goal is to score double digit points and set the tone for my all city potential season. As a team, there’s always things to work on but I believe we are much improved from last year, and we are ready to perform at a high level on Wednesday. As a program we want to show the school, the city, and prove to ourselves why we are the favorites to win the D3 chip this year.”

Number 10, Nikon Spasov, says, “I feel excited about my last season opener, and can’t wait to be out there with my teammates having fun.”
