Girls Soccer 2023-24 season is here and off to a striking start!
Their official season opener was on December 1st, 2023 at 4:30 PM against Cesar E. Chavez Learning Academy. Last year our Huskies beat Chavez with a score of 4-0. Huskies continue to work towards dominating this year with their tie against Chavez, 0-0.
Number 16, Valerie Fuentes, expresses her feelings and concerns about the season, saying “I’m excited about the season starting, just a bit nervous in terms of results just because lots of good seniors left last year.”
In the 2022-23 season, girls soccer had made it to the 2023 CIF LA City Section Girls Soccer Championships by winning their play-in game against Northridge Academy Pumas, 9-0. Although they were unable to advance to the quarter finals, Huskies are prepared to make it further this year.
Huskies girls soccer has had a reputation for the last 3 years of ending with a ranking of #1 in the East Valley League.
In the 2020-21 season they ended with a league win-loss rate of 5-0.12-0, and 12-0 in the 2022-23 season.
Although they lost a few all star players last season, such as Emily Dietz, Byanca Garcia, and Keyla Phillips, Huskies aren’t giving up; they’re only coming back stronger.
In our hearts, every Husky is an all star player.
With the new players on the team there are several improvements. Number 17, Marley Hung, describes her experience joining the team, saying “Everyone is nice and welcoming and everyone gets along with each other.”
Our Huskies work hard and play hard, and their hard work pays off as they are phenomenal and they know it.
Number 1, Brissia Figueroa describes the game against Chavez, saying “Yesterday’s game went well for our first game. Both Varsity and JV did their best to try and learn how others play, especially with it being a basically new team.”
Fuentes agrees with Figueroa, saying, “I believe considering we had no preseason games, we managed to connect decently enough with each other. I think one of our strengths is that we have very good individual talent that if we found how to combine with other talents, we would be a very strong team.”
Huskies most recent away game was on December 6, 2023 against Arleta High School. They took a rough loss 2-1.
Hung inputs her prediction for the rest of the season to be, “Relatively well, as long as we keep practicing. We can continue improving, we can only go up from here.”
