Have you ever felt a surge of strong motivation, but just didn’t know where to release it?
When one feels this way, they often put it [that motivation] towards a passion, a goal, or a to-do list that day.
However, some put it towards a hobby. Some may equate a hobby to a past-time, and others input a little more devotion to their hobbies because it holds a deeper meaning.
Nonetheless, adding one or a few to one’s daily routine can hold various benefits that one may not have anticipated before.
Not to mention, the options are limitless. Hobbies have no borders. What matters most is that they add to one’s life, expanding that drive, fulfillment, and overall, growth as a person.
STEM sophomore, Diana Araujo, suggests that, “Anything which a person spends time doing during their free time should be considered a hobby…As long as the activity brings the person peace of mind and keeps them entertained.”
In Araujo’s case, her hobby is bracelet making, which she has turned into a small-business! She recounts that, “My grandma suggested I should make bracelets as it was her main form of entertainment during COVID times.”
As she grew her passion for bracelet making, Araujo says, “It has bettered my ability to be patient with myself and my tasks.”
She continues, “I specifically like the idea of honoring my grandma’s teachings in the way of bracelet making…this sprouted loads of creativity within me…”
One can find her small business and order various bracelets on Instagram @bracelets_by_dianaa!
Hence, hobbies can become as serious as a small side business, or in SAS senior, Adriana Hernandez’s case, simply something to destress after a long day of school.
Hernandez shares that she “dances in her room alone” to her favorite TikTok songs for about an hour and a half until she feels motivated enough to start her homework.
She calls this hobby her own: “I like to be in my room alone and no one else is watching, so I can basically do whatever I want.”
In SAS senior, Griselda Salina’s experience, she admits that the best part of her hobbies is, “Being able to interact with individuals who share similar hobbies as those I enjoy…[sharing hobbies] has allowed me to establish new friendships and curiosity towards other hobbies.”
Salinas recounts, “I’ve learned and developed many hobbies which include sewing, running, singing, reading, and playing the guitar.”
She proudly shares that, “ [My hobbies] has allowed me to destress… all while…establish[ing] my long-term and short-term goals and ultimately bring[ing] me happiness.”
Most notably, they’ve helped Salinas, “discover my [her] interest and passions I [she] wish to pursue along with learning more of the world’s wonders.”
Therefore, as demonstrated by various students from North Hollywood High School, hobbies are a universal thing.
For some it requires more discipline and commitment, while for others, hobbies take up a more decompressed slot in their daily routines.
With that said, hobbies can hold unique meaning to any person, however, what matters most is if it makes one happy, as conveyed by the students at hand.
