On Monday, March 4, 2024 at 4:00 PM the North Hollywood Huskies faced off against the Verdugo Hills Dons on Husky Territory to start off the first league game of the season.
The pre season score was 3-2 (60% win rate) and Coach Cruz and his volleyball team had felt prepared for league. Last season the Huskies came in third place in league (7-5,) and in the 2021-2022 season they were second place (9-3.) So, the team has the capabilities of being one of the best teams in the East Valley League.
Last year, the scores against Verdugo Hills were 1-3 on Monday, March 6, 2023, and 0-3 on Thursday, March 30, 2023. This year, the Huskies were looking to get their “get back.” However, they unfortunately lost against the Dons 1-3. So, hopefully on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at 4:00 PM on the Dons territory they will get their “get back.”
In the pre-season they had a common opponent (Canoga Park) that they both won against. So, there were no other stats to even line up both teams. The game seemed to be in anybody’s ball park, however we had home field advantage on our side.
The players expressed their opinions about how they predict the rest of the season is going to go by stating that:
Number 5, Nate Arlauskas, said that “I believe that we’ll go far this season. We have a pretty solid team, and Cruz has helped us become one of the best schools in the league.”
Number 6, Justin Kim, said how “I’m excited about this upcoming volleyball season and look forward to whatever that entails!”
Number 7, Nathanael Velasquez, expresses his feelings about this season by stating that “since this is my last year, I want to put my all into this season. There are good teams out in our league/division, but with discipline and dedication I feel like we can make it far.”
Number 9, Hessler Aidana, exclaims his beliefs that “I think that we can go far this season, I think we have the team, and we have the discipline that other teams in our league simply don’t have.”
