On April 26th, Zoolapalooza put on a night of live music, food, and fun activities in celebration of Earth Day.
Set in the agriculture area on North Hollywood High School’s main campus, the student-led event created a great ambiance for a series of bands to perform for attendees to watch. However, this would not have been possible without the behind-the-scenes work of Zoo Magnet’s zoo crew.
After a long day of conducting, Allison Xicol, the president of the zoo crew explained, “As a team, we worked together to prepare all performances, decorations, and publicity ads as they were needed throughout the event. Our overall goal was to ensure Zoolapalooza ran as smoothly as possible.”
As students entered they set down blankets and chairs on the grass as their seats to view band performances. They had access to a food truck set outside the entrance and participated in activities such as arts and crafts, and surprise contests. Ellison Hinnen, a junior, says, “One thing I did not expect was the pie-eating contest, that was funny. That’s one reason I love attending Zoolapalooza, the atmosphere is fun.”
Isabella Ticas, a senior shared, “Zoolapalooza surpassed my expectations. I didn’t expect the Spanish singing band, but that was hands down my favorite performance. I came here as it is a great place to hang out with my friends outside of class.”
Not only did viewers find themselves having a great time, but performers found joy in their part as well. Andrew Bogaryan, a senior and bassist in the band London’s Over said, “I’m proud of my band’s performance. I had a lot of fun. That was the best we’ve done. The practice helped since we used to mess up a lot but this time mistakes were little to none.”
With the overall positive feedback, many would say that this year’s Zoolapalooza was a success.
