May 6th was the start of teacher appreciation week! North Hollywood High School showed their appreciation by providing gifts to our hard-working teachers. Students took the week to reflect on the contributions their teachers have made to guarantee them an improved academic journey.
Many students have grown strong connections with teachers that have positively influenced their time at school. For example, Elizabeth Rosales, a junior, stated “My favorite teacher is Ms. Bunis because she’s passionate about what she does and reflects her knowledge well on her students, it’s why I’ve learned a lot in her class. She’s a great teacher but also a great listener.”
Dewmini Wickramarathna, a senior, shared, “I’m always appreciative of the help teachers give to their students, like one time I was struggling with my psychology class, so Ms. Benitez showed me different studying techniques to do well on the test.”
Teachers have not only assisted their students in their school work but for struggles outside of the classroom. Angel Gonzalez, a senior, recalled, “A time a teacher helped me out was when I emailed them about a personal issue because it was affecting my class work, and they tried their best to help me cope with it and gave me as much time as I needed without making me feel different.”
The teachers here at North Hollywood High School have shown to be fantastic mentors and confidants. Their encouragement, understanding, and invaluable advice allow students to thrive and give them greater chances against the adversities they face in their current lives.
With this in mind, Jack Watson, a senior, suggested that “Students could show appreciation any day for their teachers by paying attention, respecting, and listening to them. Whenever I am in class I always make sure to make sure I pay attention when they are speaking and complete my work. I feel that is the least we could do.”
Teachers were delighted with the efforts applied by the school and students to give them thanks on their special week. However, with a week dedicated to it or not, many agree appreciation is something to be given to our devoted educators constantly.
