North Hollywood Football is back! On Thursday Aug. 15, Huskies participated in scrimmage games against Chatsworth, Edward R Roybal, and Van Nuys . They won against all three schools and are carrying the victory momentum and mindset into the first official preseason game against Hawkins High School this Friday, August 23rd.
Quarterback Nate Arlauskas (#5), shared that, “..this scrimmage was exciting, we got five pick 6s and three of them were against Chatsworth. We feel stronger than we did the last couple [years], so I’m eager to see what the rest of the season looks like.”
The scrimmage was organized as players ran 10 plays on offense, 10 on defense, and then repeated the rotation. If either team didn’t get the first down, they went back to the 40 yard line until their 10 plays expired. This summed up to about 130 plays! This shows our Huskies determination and readiness.
Senior, Joel Garcia (#52) acknowledges, “I feel like we did better than we thought, we did good on offense and scoring a good amount and gaining yards. And on defense we did good stopping the pass, although the other teams did complete some passes. But, we did really good on stoping the run.”
Despite the heat, huskies practiced for several hours over the summer, and now their hard work is paying off. Our huskies are dedicated to bring more victories, and are willing to put in the extra work. Senior, Jason Martinez (#8) refers to the practices as ” much needed, especially after our seniors left. There were some new personnel on offense and defense that needed to learn our plays so that we could be set and good for this upcoming season.” They are all set and ready for kickoff!
After hours and hours of practice, players were able to take something away as they prepare. Garcia continues, “I personally feel very excited and more confident going into this season with how we performed, we just need to still work on a few more things. We worked really hard this summer to be how we are.” This confidence is incredibly important for these types of performances. Omar Muhammed (#6), excitedly expresses, “I have never felt more prepared for a season, the guys I have beside me have my back and I have theirs, we played great last week going 3-0, all blowouts and practice has only been getting better.”
Muhammed encourages “I think everyone should give our games a chance because every single carry or pass coming from our guys will be electric. Our line is amazing and i’m honored to run behind them. I will be scoring A LOT, so watch out for that.” You heard it here! Watch out for our charged Huskies this season!
