After a tough loss against Polytechnic High School in the 2023-24 football season, Huskies are back and stronger than ever. Maintaining a 4-0 winning streak, Huskies were determined to continue their success following their rival game on September 27, 2024.
Rival week is known to bring excitement and anticipation for students and parents from both Poly and North Hollywood High schools. This long-standing tradition has been a season highlight for both communities as the rivalry between the two schools dates back several decades.
As the game kicked off, energy within the crowd was through the roof. Students and parents filled the stands, enthusiastically participating in the “Blue Out” theme to demonstrate their Husky Spirit. Cheer energetically kept the crowd engaged with chants, while the band created a harmonious symphony of excitement. The school spirit was echoed throughout the stands, building the spirited atmosphere of Friday Night Lights.
A key memory of Friday Night lights is the unforgettable halftime show. Every year, North Hollywood’s Royal Regiment: Band and Colorguard decide on a unique theme for their halftime performance. Drum Major, Alina Laaly explains, “ I feel like the show is coming together amazingly! The theme of the marching band halftime show is Surfs up. Each song represents a part of a story: starting from a fun day at the beach to a romance, then a shark attack, and finally a resolution.”
At the rival game, North Hollywood’s Royal Regiment unveiled their highly anticipated halftime performance for the first time this season. Their remarkable talent and dedication were on full display.
Junior Color Guard Captain, Alyssa Angel positively reflects, “I was so excited to perform on friday. It was genuinely so amazing to watch everyone debut the show and feel so much joy after it. It’s a different experience performing from practice. When I perform, I’m truly in my happy place. I get to do what I love and show off a little too. As captain, walking off the field and knowing we crushed that performance is a feeling I just can’t describe. It feels like I’m on top of the world.”
The enthusiasm of the band, color guard members, and the crowd created a spirited atmosphere filled with Husky pride. The excitement and anticipation for the rest of the game was overwhelming, everyone came together to cheer and support our team.
As both teams competed for the prestigious trophy, Huskies were able to reclaim possession of the rivalry trophy and win the game with an impressive score of 43-0. The remarkable performance showcased huskies determination and teamwork, as they secured their comeback against Poly’s Parrots.
#6 Omar Muhammed highlights, “It felt amazing to beat poly this year, I couldn’t get a smile off my face the whole night… Nobody In the league is stopping us. The crowd cheering and the band playing gives me chills, I used to play instruments so it feels good to hear them. Other schools booing at us is just fuel, doesn’t make us nervous. I would say it only hypes us up.”
Huskies remarkable teamwork led them to victory, preserving their impressive 5-0 winning streak. This season, they have undeniably demonstrated that their unwavering spirit and commitment will make it truly unforgettable.
