If you know about the NHHS Arcade, you may or may have not heard of the Husky Roundup. The Husky Roundup is a series of weekly short videos that review news about the most recent happenings regarding NHHS sports teams. They’re brief videos that usually span to around 1 minute and are posted on Instagram.
The Husky Roundup crew consists of students from Mr. Rondini’s Video Production 3 Class: Stephen Lattuca, Jonathan Lehavi, Robert Ybarra, Ava Bishop, Shackelton Boswell, Alexander Zambrano, Eduardo Estrada, Edward Mojica, Sandy Pennson, and Ivelin Dimov.
When it comes to the other roles, every member of the crew randomly assigns who gets to speak on what part of the video. Boswell and Zambrano are in charge of setting up the microphone and lighting. Lattuca and Bishop usually start the Husky Roundup off. Dimov acts as a director. Estrada and Mojica provide intel on the sports.
Every Monday, the students set up the greenscreen, a table, the camera, and lighting and begin filming the Husky Roundup. When all the footage is collected, it is sent to the editor, Jonathan Lehavi. He then works in the computer room to edit the video on Capcut Desktop Version. Once he’s finished editing, the completed final video is then posted on instagram right away. This could be anywhere from the day it was filmed, which is usually Monday, to Friday. And then the cycle repeats every week. When it comes to how long it takes to finish editing an episode of the Husky Roundup, Jonathan Lehavi says, “procrastination aside, maybe it takes about 2 hours to finish an episode. That usually spans through two and a half periods.”
When it comes to the workload, editor Jonathan Lehavi says, “The workload is light, but managing to do it with the little amount of time we’re given in class is a challenge.” Lehavi, like many other students, explains that it is quite difficult to get a good amount of work done in just under an hour each day. Another challenge he faces is with the editing software. “Capcut glitches out sometimes. I’m not used to Capcut. I’m more used to Final Cut Pro. But it’s fairly similar, and it’s easy to adjust to.” His statement emphasizes on the fact that it’s a struggle to have to work on an editing software you are not used to or comfortable with. But luckily, like he said, Capcut is fairly easy to use and adjust to.
Mr. Rondini is the teacher of the Video Production class in charge of the Husky roundup. He acts as an executive producer for the Husky Roundup. He describes the Husky Roundup as ”the North Hollywood version of Sports Center”.
When explaining the origins of the Husky Roundup, Rondini states that “the husky roundup was created last year because it was the first time I had a level two class in my program and we wanted to make contributions to the NHHS campus” This shows that the Husky Roundup is a fairly recent program. And hopefully, it will continue for years to come.
Videos are undoubtedly a big part of media and news distribution. As long as our school’s sports teams participate in games, the Husky Roundup will always be around. That’s a guarantee from the team!
