With North Hollywood consisting of a diverse community, the neighborhood offers a variety of restaurants and cuisines, many of which are favored by North Hollywood High School students.
Bangin’ Buns has taken the North Hollywood area by storm upon its grand opening in 2018. Customers from all over the San Fernando Valley make the drive to devour what some may argue is the best chicken spot in not only the valley but also in Los Angeles.
North Hollywood High School Senior Robert Ybarra proudly states that Bangin’ Buns is his favorite restaurant in not only North Hollywood but in general. He states, “In general the place serves the tastiest chicken. I personally like to order the chicken slider along with fries.” When asked what exact aspect of the food makes it so good, he replies, “The chicken is always juicy and is seasoned heavily. Their portions are big and are worth your money.”
However, the food is not the only quality that makes Bangin’ Buns so loveable. Ybarra continues to mention, “They have great customer service, always greet you with a smile, and the atmosphere in the restaurant itself is welcoming and cozy.”
Although several other chicken restaurants in North Hollywood are on a near level of popularity, Ybarra further mentions, “There is something different about Bangin’ Buns that makes it stand out to other chicken restaurants in NoHo like Dave’s Hot Chicken or Bruxie. I’ve eaten from all of them and these two restaurants are able to compete with Bangin’ Buns, however, Bangin’ Buns uses better seasonings that make the food more flavorful.”
Ybarra continues to add, “Bangin’ Buns also have the better sauces. Dave’s Hot Chicken, Bruxie, and Bangin’ Buns are not too far from each other, but it is more worth it to get food from Bangin’ Buns, in my opinion.”
Located in the heart of North Hollywood, Urban Skillet is yet another popular restaurant that is a result of its distinctive dishes.
Urban Skillet is known for its halal burgers and their hefty size. The restaurant is favored especially by North Hollywood Senior, Issa Emurlaev.
When asked why the Urban Skillet is his favorite restaurant, Emurlaev is eager to stress, “There is no other halal burger spot in NoHo, let alone any spot, that makes juicer burgers than the Urban Skillet.” Emurlaev adds, “They serve some of the biggest burgers I’ve seen. I love the Truffle Burger.” He especially emphasizes, “Due to religious reasons, I’m only permitted to eat halal foods, and the Urban Skillet makes the best halal burgers.”
According to Emurlaev, their burgers aren’t the only star of the show, further conveying his love for their sides as well. “The Onion Rings and Skillet Fries are also my go-to because of how crispy they are, and their perfect mix of spices,” Emurlaev adds.
Emurlaev feels that the Urban Skillet is underrated because burger joints like In N’ Out are taking all the spotlight. He explains, “Of course In N’ Out is known to have what are arguably the best burgers in all of California. Also In N’ Out is cheap, to which I’ll admit the Urban Skillet can get a little pricey. Although it’s less known, Urban Skillet has more to offer. I especially appreciate how explicit Urban Skillet is with their halal food.” Nonetheless, the Urban Skillet’s food holds a place in Emurlaev’s heart.
The Great White Hut is another favored restaurant that is no stranger to North Hollywood students. The restaurant provides a mix of flavors, with its menu consisting of Mexican and American food. The restaurant’s popularity is a result of its nomination for having the best-rated fries with toppings.
Logan Orozco, a senior at North Hollywood High School, openly states that The Great White Hut is one of the best restaurants North Hollywood has to offer as he explains, “Their food is really cheap and affordable. It aligns with students especially because of its affordability, but also simply because the food is good.” Additionally, he comments on the diversity of the menu as he mentions, “They have Mexican food that is amazing, but also burgers and sides that won’t disappoint as well.”
Orozco was unaware of The Great White Hut’s nomination for having the best fries with toppings, to which he states, “I didn’t know that but honestly I’m not surprised. Their Asada Fries are the best and go with anything they have on the menu.”
However, would The Great White Hut be the first restaurant that Orozco would recommend to anyone? He comments, “Without a doubt. Most people typically look for places that are local, affordable, and have good food. The Great White Hut has all of those factors. I think a lot of people would love it.” He additionally comments, “The only downside it has is that it’s a small restaurant.”
All in all, the local restaurants in North Hollywood provide Huskies with diverse cuisine, savory flavors, and a remedy to cure hunger and eliminate cravings. Huskies have shown their love towards such restaurants, however, North Hollywood offers a variety of diverse restaurants, to which Huskies will be able to satisfy their taste buds without a doubt.
