The 2025-2026 fall sports season has begun. At North Hollywood High School, the fall sports include football, flag football, cheer, band, color guard, girls golf, cross country, girls tennis, and girls volleyball. The fall season comes with a packed sports schedule and many games that students can attend and cheer on for their fellow Huskies.
After coming back as being undefeated league champions last year, football is trying to repeat history. Football captain, Christopher Renteria (#22), is excited for his team to show off all the hard work they’ve put in over the summer. Renteria explains, “I do believe the team is ready for this upcoming season, …we’ve been hard at work all offseason and summer and I believe it will pay off.” Renteria, along with his seven other captains, are ready to lead the team to a successful season. Renteria says, “I love and believe in all of the guys on the team and I know we have each other’s back.”

For the Lady Huskies, flag football captain Destiny Rodriguez (#1) is excited to play her senior season. Rodriguez commemorates her team’s growth. She says, “I think we have a lot to prove, and I’m excited to show how much we’ve grown since last year.” After being crowned captain, Rodriguez has been working hard independently to be there for her team.
“I’ve also been focusing on being a strong leader because I want to motivate my teammates and set an example for the energy we will bring this season,” Rodriguez continued. As for flag football’s schedule, they have had away games so far, but their next home game is Wednesday, October 8th. Be sure to cheer on your fellow huskies.
Bringing in the husky spirit, new cheer captain Gladys Cuevas is bringing energy to her senior season. As the team has been working hard over the summer, Cuevas reflects, “I believe the team is ready for this upcoming season. This year, our team is coming in with such excitement.” After cheering for the first time this season for an away game, Cuevas explains, “It was definitely a fun experience and a relief to us knowing that we got to experience what this year’s season is going to look like.” Remember to participate in the football games and join in on the cheer.
As for the music behind our husky spirit, Band Major Kevin Torres and colorguard lieutenant Lucianna Mota are ecstatic for their senior season. The band prepares for football season with their summer band camp. Mota explains, “They’ve had about two weeks to prepare for this, and me, along with the other leader,Alyssa Angel, we’ve been very good at managing our time and teaching them (the team) new stuff.”
Over the summer, the team worked extremely hard to perform beautifully on the field during the season. Torres explains what the band brings to the football games. “I believe the band is beyond ready to start this season off strong by bringing all the pep tunes to the stands for our football games” Be on the lookout for band’s amazing half time shows at the football games.

At the Van Nuys Golf Course, Girls golf varsity player Audelya Tirado is excited for this upcoming season. Tirado reflects, “Our team has shown great dedication in practice, and it’s clear that everyone is committed to improving. I’m looking forward to seeing how both returning players and new teammates grow throughout the season.” Girls golf has had some impressive scores this past year, and with all their hard work, they’re eager to bring home staggering scores. Tirado says, “Overall, I feel well-prepared and excited for our first match.” Be on the lookout for their games and go support the Lady Huskies.
Cross country captain Diana Araujo is leading her team down a path of success this season. Araujo says, “Our team is filling up with amazing runners beginning their journey in this sport. Although we have a while before our first race, our team has begun to prove their will and motivation for this upcoming season.”
Typically, cross country races are held at Pierce College , due to their track being under repair, their first race has been postponed till further notice. Araujo has been building up the confidence of her team and herself even with their minor setbacks. Araujo says, “As captain for my team, I want to provide the most confidence and stable source of communication before our first races. Our first race will just mark the beginning of incredible memories and race times this year!”
As for the on-court sports, Girls Tennis Captain, Claire Han is ready for her senior season. She talks about her goal for the team, “I’m excited and ready to win another championship. I was worried because we lost a lot of skilled seniors, but we got some new promising players and have great returning players as well.”
Referring to the 2022-23 championships, the Lady Huskies won. The team’s season has started, their next home match is thursday September 25. Han expresses, “We’re a little rusty because a lot of us had summer commitments that prevented us from playing, but after some practice, we should be set.” Be sure to keep a lookout for girls tennis on the court!

Volleyball varsity player Valeria Samano (#8) is ready to bring her A-game for her senior season. Samano expresses, “ I do feel emotional, but in a good way. I’m happy that you know I’m ending it off in a good way and with a team that I enjoy playing with.” Samano is going into this season with a new mindset. Samano explains, “You know you have to readjust the way you’re playing and change things up so that maybe. You know, you try something different and maybe it’ll work out. So don’t give up. You’ve got your own team. You’ve to give yourself credit.” As the volleyball season has started already, the lady huskies are ready to play hard, especially Samano alongside her fellow seniors.
The first semester is usually buzzing with excitement for the fall sports. With such a wide variety of sports, there are plenty of games to watch with your friends and make memories. Don’t forget to bring your Husky spirit and cheer on your fellow Huskies!
