FFA Regional and State Conference

As you know, our school has an FFA team, but do you know what they do? They plan petting zoos, flower sales, care for our school’s animals, and most recently; attend conferences. These kinds of opportunities help fund our school’s agriculture area and make our school look better in the process.

The first event was the Regional conference and it’s from Thursday, March 9th to Saturday, March 11th King City California. Our school’s treasurer, president, and secretary attended the conference along with Mr. Lepore. During this time they will have an election and vote on the new regional officers for the south coast region. It’s a short event but it’s a great experience to have in FFA.

“I’m really excited about going to regionals. It’s going to be a long 3 hour drive but I’ll be with the people I like so it’s a win win.” exclaimed Sabrina Medrono, our FFA Treasurer.

Now as for State conferences, it’s a mandatory event. All section teams across California come together in one hall to say goodbye to the current state officers of california and mingle with over 6,000 section officers. It’s a 4 day event starting on Thursday, March 16 to Sunday, March 19th in Ontario California. This event helps our officers mingle with others just like them all across California and hear amazing speakers/events throughout those 4 days.

“It’s unfortunate that our officers couldn’t go the year before. This is going to be my last year in FFA and I’m happy I finally get to have the experience of going to state.” exclaims Edward Mateo, our FFA President.

This is the first time North Hollywood FFA is going to the state conference since March 2019, at the Anaheim convention center. Due to the pandemic starting in 2020, our team wasn’t able to go. There was a conference in March 2022 but LAUSD didn’t allow them to go because of health protocols. So, it’s a very exciting event.

“I’m very excited and happy to get back into the norm with conferences for FFA. My current team has done so much the past year and this event will be enjoyable for them; I just know it!” said Mr. Lepore, our school’s agriculture teacher.

Each member on the team is going and that includes: Our president, vice president, secretary, sentinel, historian, and reporter.

“State is going to be filled with so much walking and it can be annoying wearing the same outfit for 4 days in a row but it’s worth the experience.” said Brianna Navarijo-Lopez, our FFA Vice President.

North Hollywood FFA is going places and has a bright future ahead of them. With our Vice President winning first place for regional public speaking, being recognized by superintendent Carvalho, board member scott schmerelson, and having one of the biggest agriculture areas in Los Angeles. There’s no stopping them.
