Ms. Bunis is a name synonymous with bringing History to life. 

Ms. Bunis has been at North Hollywood High School for 7 years now, teaching mostly SAS kids and acting as a tour guide through the trials and tribulations that are in U.S. history. In APUSH, students dive head-first into conflicting perspectives, dissecting primary sources, and analyzing continuity and change over time,emerging as well-educated and nuanced individuals. 

Originally from Massachusetts, Bunis moved to New York in her young adult life, and after college, worked at a Museum about the U.S. Senate. She says, “I got to work there even before it opened…when it did open, I would do tours for students…” 

Ms. Bunis went to school at Yale, where she studied American Studies. She says, “…it’s like a combination of American history and American Culture.” Taking inspiration from her mom who had been a teacher all her life, she went towards teaching history. 

Through her past jobs – working at a museum, then later at MTV informing the public about voting and more – she discovered her passion for teaching.

Ms. Bunis always stayed in the realm of education in each job she worked at saying, “Education was always on the back of my mind.” 

Moving from New York to Los Angeles seven years ago, Ms. Bunis got her undergraduate degree in teaching, saying, “I thought that teaching the same students every day would be something worth exploring.”

Being a history teacher for seven years now, Ms. Bunis has developed her favorite periods in history, one of them being, “…the lead up to the Civil War is one of my favorites, I think it’s important for students to understand…” 

Additionally, she says teaching World War I and II is also one of her favorites, as it is a period which keeps one at the edge of their seat. 

Outside of educating students of all the endeavors of history, Ms. Bunis has hobbies of her own. Outside of school, Ms Bunis says, “I love camping and hiking.”
