NHHS’s Own Mini Celebrity

Our+Oldest+Husky

Those who come and go can say that one of the most memorable people on the North Hollywood campus is Rob Allen.  When you need him he’s always willing to lend a helping hand and let’s not forget his tradition of leading the Husky spell out during pep rally.

The husky spell out has been a long standing tradition and it would not be complete without Rob urging the crowd to show their husky spirit. Students and staff alike all look forward to the pep rally and Robs tradition.

What most people don’t know is how long he has actually been part of this community . Mr. Duarte, a faculty member on campus, has  known Rob since before even coming to work at North Hollywood High School, “I’ve known Rob since before I started working here. Rob was an umpire at Toluca Lake little League when I played there when I was 12 or 13 years old.”

Rob has always been part of the coaching scene even having met Mr. Harris at a young age as a basketball coach. Harris, who has known Rob for over 35 years, recalls meeting him, “ I originally met Rob when he was coaching and umpiring youth basketball and baseball.”

Not only has Rob coached community sports teams but according to Mr.Harris he has also coached and helped out with athletics at the North Hollywood campus. “ Rob has coached at North Hollywood for over 40 years, I believe only coaching what was known as B’S AND C’S basketball which transitioned to freshman and sophomore basketball for many years. He’s always helped out with athletics. For many years, he was the  timer for both basketball as well as football. He stopped that about 5-6 years ago as he started pulling back from some of the things he was doing on campus.”

Celeste Ramirez, an SAS senior comments, “Everyone knows Rob, he’s always riding around in his little cart making sure we get to class on time and acts as one of our security guards.” . In recent years most people know Rob because of his cart rather than his years of coaching, but Rob has been doing much more than just that for our campus.

Mrs. Valle has commented that Rob is the go to person. “He’s our go to person. I know he opens up the school really early and before he would also close it. He used to attend our football games as well and help out with athletics. “

Valle adds, “I don’t know what we would do without him. He’s a hard worker, he’s funny, he knows what to say to lighten the mood when he sees we’re like, Oh my God this job is I don’t know. When we’re talking about students, he’s always asking for their well being because he obviously gets to see more outside and because he is very caring.”

Rob’s caring nature is what has allowed for the countless students that have gone through North Hollywood High School’s doors to be impacted by his presence.

Rob is known and loved by many and has stated that it is a great feeling to know that people remember him and that the community is so connected, “ I think that the community at North Hollywood High School is just really intertwined and as each year goes by I’m running into obviously parents that went here friends that went here and it’s just so connected and even this year my 54th year, Oh my mom and dad remember you, things like that is just incredible.”

He is a giant pillar of the North Hollywood community even having his own little celebrity moments. He has been stopped and asked if he is Rob from North Hollywood High School.”I go to the market and people stop me all the time , Oh hi are you Rob. Things like that it’s a great feeling it really is.”

Rob is definitely someone who leaves his mark on others and will continue to do so as long as he is part of the NHHS (North Hollywood High School) staff and part of the Noho community. He graduated from NHHS in 1968 and has been part of the community ever since both on campus and off campus.

Although too many see Rob only on campus and see everything he does they don’t know he likes to relax during his breaks by going to old las vegas. Mrs. Valle mentions, “ He loves vegas. That’s what he likes to do when we have breaks. He and Rich go out there and they stay downtown. He makes it a point of being in downtown old Las Vegas.”

Besides carrying out his duties he likes to have time for himself and follow a routine which many have pointed out is something he appreciates having.

Rob has been part of the community since 68’ and will continue to be part of it as long as he is working on campus but even then that does not pull away from the countless people he has impacted and left his mark on. Rob Allen is one of the if not the biggest pillar here on campus.
