North Hollywood’s girls’ soccer plays their last home game against Poly High School on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 4:00 PM. North Hollywood’s girls’ basketball team plays their last home game against Verdugo Hills on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 7:00 PM.

These Huskies are celebrating their Senior Night. Senior Night is a game to honor graduating athletes, as this is their last league home game as a high school student. This is a night filled with celebrations and recognition for their achievements.

Number 21, Maria Meza

Girls’ soccer lost against Poly on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 4:30 PM on their field, so hopefully this Friday’s game the score changes and the Huskies have home field advantage.

Number 10, Julieth Rodriguez expresses her thoughts on Senior Night by stating how “I feel both really happy and a bit sad. It’s gonna be such a sweet moment to experience, but also I love hanging out and playing with my friends. I love laughing at their jokes and just overall smiling with them which makes it a bit sad to know that it’s finishing up. I’m happy though because I’ve been looking forward to experiencing this with my friends for the longest time. It’s just gonna be a sweet moment knowing that we started playing together originally.”

Senior Night is a night filled with many mixed emotions as graduating athletes get to have a sense of closure by celebrating their last high school game.

Number 12, Sophia Montes, explains how for Senior Night, “I feel a sense of nostalgia because it brings back memories of previous games and experiences I’ve had on the field. It’s honestly such a bittersweet moment because as much as it is exciting to have one last home game with teammates who I’ve developed friendships with, it’s also really sad knowing that it’s coming to an end. I’m really going to miss just messing around during practice, being with friends and the rush of adrenaline and joy it brought me to be on the field. I got a second chance to do the thing I love when I joined the team and it’s been an incredible and unforgettable experience. Being able to share this moment with my teammates is so surreal and special but also in a way heartbreaking knowing that this year is my last year playing soccer. I’m just planning on giving it my all and to enjoy my final moments on the field.”

This is an emotional night for most athletes because when they’re in the game, they may get overwhelmed with all the memories that have led them to this moment.

Number 25, Addison Leon

Number 21, Maria Meza feels emotional about how “…the season is coming to an end. Been on the team since my sophomore year and it’s crazy how three years flew by. Definitely going to miss the energy of playing at our home field. Not only that but having my family and friends support at every game.”

Girls basketball played against Verdugo Hills on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 4:30 PM on Verdugo territory and lost 31-41, so they are devising a plan to make sure it doesn’t happen for the Girls’ Senior Night.

Sports can teach a lot of valuable lessons that will carry on for most of these athletes. They teach teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and how to handle both success and failure.

Number 25, Addison Leon, shares a sentimental thought by expressing how “I feel sad knowing that a sport I’ve loved for so long is finally coming to an end. But I’m grateful for this season as it has taught me so much mentally and physically. I’m looking forward to seeing the girls play in the future.”
