Hey Huskies! Are you interested in participating in any fall sports but don’t know where to start? Well you’re just in luck! The majority of these programs are starting tryouts now up until the beginning of summer break.
These extracurricular activities include: Color Guard and Band (NHHS Royal Regiment), Girls Volleyball, Football, Cross Country, Girls Flag Football, and sideline cheer!
Sideline cheer revolves around cheering for the football teams during their games, forming chants and cheers, and making the energy sky-high. They perform routines with the use of signs, megaphones, and pom-poms.
Unfortunately, sideline cheer just recently had their tryouts June 20-21st and the 23rd for current 9th-11th students.
Tryouts were over a three day period; two for preparation and practice, while the final day was the showcase for the official tryout performance.
Though, sideline cheer isn’t the only way to be a part of Football’s Friday nights cheerful crowd. Color Guard is also a familiar, but more adrenaline rushing crowd alongside Band. Together they make memorable and cheerful performances both on and off the bleachers.
Color Guard is a sport of the arts involving flags, rifles, sabers, and dancing! During the first semester, color guard is most seen during their performances during halftime football games, and fall and winter pep rallies. However, they also participate in out of school activities, such as parades, competitions, and so much more!
Color Guard is hosting their tryouts on June 1st from 10am-1pm in North Hollywood’s Gym. SAS junior, Isabella Otero, encourages, “While it may seem scary at first, I promise attending Color Guard tryouts is not something to fear in the slightest. Color Guard brings countless opportunities to grow as an individual and create memories of a lifetime!”
If you prefer more instrumental performances, NHHS Royal Regiment is the place to practice and perform your special talent. Band is a group of student musicians who rehearse and create performances together for football games, parades, and several competitions/showcases.
SAS Sophomore, Rebecca Shavit, persuades, “Our band shows up to every event with their husky spirit, ready to win and put on a fantastic performance. Within the regiment, you will learn teamwork, dedication, and develop a strong work ethic … .For more information on the band/guard and how to join, visit our instagram @nhhs_royalregiment or @nohoguard.”
As of now, NHHS Royal Regiment hasn’t announced any set dates for tryouts. Though, for returning and already announced new members, there’s an annual Band Camp, which both color guard and Band members are required to attend. Band Camp is from July 29th-August 7th, and times are yet to be announced.
The star of Friday night lights: NHHS football team. Football is a game typically played by two teams of eleven players using an oval-shaped ball where players attempt to score points by passing or carrying the ball to the opponent’s end of the field. Tryouts for football have not been announced for football, though, returning players are required to participate in summer practices.
Outside of Friday night games, girls volleyball also begins during the fall semester.
Girls volleyball has announced their tryouts for June 3-5th from 4:30-6pm in North Hollywood’s main gym. These days are separated and assigned specifically for current students, as for incoming freshmen, tryouts are scheduled for June 12th from 8:30-11am. On Monday June 3rd, tryouts are scheduled for current 9th graders, June 4th is for current 10th graders, and the 5th is for current 11th graders.
Zoo magnet junior, Katelyn Krowne, hopefully motivates, “From playing for years to never having touched a volleyball, there is a place for you. All it takes is for you to try. Alongside a wonderful community of girls, I’m certain of the year ahead of us. I hope you all consider giving the North Hollywood girls volleyball program a shot, and I’ll see you [all] at tryouts.”
Earlier this year, sports administration had announced a new addition of Girls flag football to North Hollywood High school. More information about confirmation and tryouts is yet to be announced. Though, if you are interested there is a SportsYou page you may join to be up to date. The code is: XCNLKWVX.
Last but not least, Cross Country. Cross Country is a running sport in which teams/individuals run races on outdoor courses over natural terrain such as dirt or grass. It is long distance running, typically 3 miles to 5 kilometers. Cross country is open to anybody who has a passion for running or wishes to start without knowing where or how to. If you are interested in participating in Cross Country or Track and Field (a spring sport), make sure to fill out this form to be added to the summer practice roster: Off Season Practice.
North Hollywood offers a variety of extracurricular activities that fulfill a wide range of interests, ensuring there’s something for everyone to discover and build a passion in. Before attending any tryouts, don’t forget to fill out the Online Athletic Clearance forms on HomeCampus.
