Have you been wondering about joining Student Council or ASB? Are you unsure about what the difference between the two are, or what would suit you as a person?
Student Council is only eligible for juniors and seniors, therefore you can only apply if you are a sophomore, or a junior. It consists of a Junior Council (JuCo) and a Senior Council.
In Student Council you mainly focus on activities that revolve around juniors and seniors. The biggest responsibility of Student Council is planning prom. Planning starts as early as junior year along with other mini-activities that persist throughout your time in Leadership such as career fair, senior sunrise, and more.
In addition, Student Council concentrates more on lobbying and liaising with administrators. This fosters new relationships with teachers and administrators that can be useful throughout your high school career.
If you are interested in having a say in how your senior year progresses, Student Council would be a great place for you. Sharing ideas and being the voice for your fellow classmates is a key part of Student Council.
On the other hand, ASB is accessible for all grade levels. Members of ASB have an obligation of keeping the school spirit high. This involves planning Spirit Days, Pep Rallies, Club Rush, and more.
Unlike Student Council, ASB is the leader of all clubs. To picture this, imagine ASB acting as an umbrella which all the other clubs are cast under. Therefore, as a member of ASB you have the right to veto or approve any clubs that are created at our school.
If you find yourself being a more artistic individual ASB would greatly benefit from your presence due to the fact that most posters you see throughout the school are likely made by an ASB member. Whereas, if you find yourself leaning more towards organizing events and fundraising, Student Council may be a better fit for you. Although, there is a spirit committee in Student Council who take on the responsibility of posters.
ASB applications have already been submitted and throughout this week (03/10-03/15) interviews will be taking place. It’s important that one lets their personality shine during these interviews. The questions consist of “serious” questions in addition to “goofy” questions, but both are important and must be creatively and uniquely answered.
As for Student Council Application, those are due later than ASB, April 5th to be exact. Along with submitting an application one must also attend interviews which span from 04/9-04/11. Similarly to ASB a set of questions will be asked which consist of serious and goofy questions, and answering all questions with a unique twist that expresses your personality to the interviewee is imperative to your success.
