Heart Club debuts with a mission and passion that gathers many to explore. Recently they hosted a Hands-On CPR Workshop that provided an opportunity to all students on campus to learn life-saving skills on a physical CPR dummy.
When asked about the event, President, STEM Senior Arsen Galstyan states, “We hosted the Hands-On CPR Workshop where students can practice chest compressions, learn basic response steps, and understand how to act quickly during cardiac emergencies.”

Galstyan adds, “The goal of the event was to teach a skill that can double or triple somebody’s chances of surviving cardiac arrest.” Galstyan not only expresses desires for the event’s potential long-term impacts but also the immediate impacts on the students that participated, “I hope people left feeling confident, empowered, and aware that their actions in an emergency can save a life.”
After seeing the success of the event, with the meeting’s attendance exceeding the average 15 to 20 students, Galstyan expresses a desire to make the CPR activity a recurring event. As successful as the first CPR event has been, students on campus can safely expect another workshop that provides a unique experience.
Heart Club meets in Room C215, on Thursdays, where all members gather with the purpose to promote health on campus through education and volunteer opportunities that encourage students to learn life saving skills and support cardiovascular awareness.
When asked about his own decision to start the club, Galstyan expresses, “I started the club because I wanted students at our school to have access to real health education, not just textbook material. Things like CPR, nutrition, and disease prevention that actually saves lives.”
Prospective members of the club can also expect interactive lessons, service projects, volunteering opportunities, and (a learning of) real-world skills related to heart health and general wellness. Heart Club creates a safe space for students to join and learn practical health education and skills.
Galstyan emphasizes “We all share an interest in serving the community and understanding how daily habits and knowledge can prevent serious health problems.” When actual participating members were asked about their reasoning behind their interest, many stated in answers that align with Galstyan’s beliefs.

An active member, Junior Harpreet Singh explains his decision to join the club, sharing, “I just wanted to know and understand my health better but also got to learn about the work it takes to save lives and [felt] appreciation for the work that paramedics do.”
As for upcoming events that students on campus can look forward to, Heart Club plans to bring a guest speaker from the American Heart Association to have an official healthcare professional bring insight to students.
Heart Club continues to expand, and plans to host nutritional workshops and donation drives in the near future. To bring engaging activities that promote health on campus, the team decides on a preparation of events based on student interest, community impact, and ultimately what aligns with the American Heart Association’s mission.
Through Heart Club’s initiative and commitment to cardiovascular health and education, students can look forward to joining the passion-driven club and participating in upcoming hands-on workshops.
