The yearly Noho Olympics, where students compete in different sports activities have concluded with the awards ceremony bringing closure and celebrating the winners.
Students were able to register their teams and compete in the event for a small fee. The Noho Olympics consisted of 7 teams competing in various sports categories, such as soccer, flag football, track, basketball, and other non-sport activities. The Olympics were held both on the field and in the gym.
ASB helped organize and plan the event, with teams competing in a different sport daily. Students would gather during lunch to watch the games play out, and root for their favorite team.
Jaymin Kim, a sophomore who played in the event remarked “My teammates and I really enjoyed playing this event, and we worked together, organizing and taking advantage of our team’s strengths and others’ weaknesses.”
Jaymin Kim’s team, the “Yellow Fellows” placed first in the event overall. The awards ceremony didn’t present a clear winner at first due to three teams holding the same score. A tiebreaker was held before the final verdict was announced. The North Hollywood drumline was present and brought the pep rally spirit to the event.
Sophomore student Jaden Chae highlighted, “You could really see and feel the excitement of the event, I had a lot of friends in the event and was rooting for them”.
Although not everyone had the same positive experience towards the event, 12th-grade student Allen Ung shared his thoughts.
“The event overall seemed unorganized, like they weren’t sure if everything was going to plan or not. Honestly, I think it would have been better if it was more structured, but it was alright.”
The ASB team is always busy, and during the Husky Olympics, ASB was also handling applications and deciding on what students would be joining ASB next year. Despite all that ASB had to deal with, they were still able to make an interactive event in which anyone in school could participate.
The event lasted a week, and it was just one of the many events that ASB holds throughout the year to improve the student’s connection with the school. Huskies showed their competitive nature throughout the event and celebrated, regardless of whether or not their team won.
