Softball season is back, bringing energy, competition, and teamwork to North Hollywood High School. From early practices to intense matchups, the team is focused on building chemistry and pushing toward a successful season. With returning players stepping into leadership roles and new athletes eager to make their mark, this year’s softball team is ready to compete, and grow.
With an overall score of 10-6, the Huskies have had a good season with hitting the ball and advancing around the four bases. During this communication and teamwork are very important because players need to react quickly in order to have a good game on the field. The players must follow the rules such as staying in the baseline when running, catching balls, and throwing out strikes. Understanding these rules help our athletes stay more effective during the games.

Left fielder Makayla Martinez (#33) mentions that she has been playing for this team for eight months. During this time throughout high pressure moments she mentioned that she liked to stay calm by using breathing techniques when she’s on the field. She also talks about how in order for her to stay motivated she likes to think about other things. “When I’m playing, I like to be motivated by thinking about the joy the sport brings me and having fun with my friends.” Martinez believes that teamwork and communication are key parts of success, and she makes an effort to support those around her both on and off the field.
Furthermore, Catcher Yaneiri Carrillo (#10) mentions that this is her first year playing softball for the team. She explains when she is on the field she tries her best to stay calm and not think too much about the game. Carrillo explains, “I also stay motivated by thinking about food and family,” highlighting how simple, personal thoughts help keep her grounded during high-pressure situations using these strategies to stay positive and perform at her best.

In addition, third base Riley Brinkle (#23) has been playing soft ball for around twelve years and started in a little league team. Brinkle explains that this is a major part that helps her keep motivated when it comes to playing on the field, she also mentions that she likes to put her all when she’s been playing for so long. Brinkle mentions when she’s playing during super high pressure moments during a game she likes to block out the crowd or anything off the field and just zero her attention to the ball. Brinkle explains “I find it helpful to focus on the ball and block out any heckling or cheering. Even when I do find myself distracted I tell myself “ball” to remind myself where I am, what I’m doing and what I need to do.”
As the season continues, the North Hollywood High School softball team remains determined to grow within each game. By combining the experience of returning players with the fresh energy of new teammates, the team is building a foundation based on trust, communication, and resilience. The team shows both individual dedication and collective strength on and off the field.
