North Hollywood High School celebrates their Highly Gifted Magnet (HGM), School of Advanced Studies (SAS), and STEM to commemorate their seniors and all their academic achievements over the years. From fun themes to interesting awards, NHHS’s SLC communities come together to celebrate their seniors.
HGM juniors honored their seniors Friday, May 22 by giving fun speeches and games. The theme of the night was Las Vegas and the teachers got into character by dressing as Las Vegas figures. Senior Claire Han got very sentimental throughout the night. Han says, “The music was hype, but thinking about how close I was to graduating and leaving everyone behind was pretty sad.” Especially with the juniors throwing this for the seniors it adds more depth to this celebration. Senior Sophia Hu felt the love of her juniors, “I received a very heartfelt speech from April and Beverly, my beloved juniors. I loved the warmth and laughter that came with everyone’s speech, especially considering that a large proportion of us have known each other since sixth grade.” The HGM senior night was a success and definitely one for the books.
SAS held their ‘SAS Awards Ceremony” on Thursday, May 20 where the teachers of SAS got to nominate students that fit into four categories: Department, Character, Rising Star, and “Locked In” awards. About 150 students received awards that morning. Junior, Sabrina Pascual won an award from the two categories: Department and Locked In. Pascual recalls, “My favorite part was during my second award when my name was called up. I was walking across and I heard one of my friends scream “I love you Sabrina” which made me smile and overall just feel so loved.” SAS fostered a warm and supportive environment.
STEM had a successful banquet with a storybook theme and filled with nostalgia. Senior Hanna Barrios Ruano reflects, “The vibe was very bittersweet because of all the children’s books and decorations everywhere. Which symbolizes a new story for the graduates and you know the end of our childhood chapter.” Ruano was awarded with honors and most spirited. STEM brought had a strong sense of community. Senior Muhaimin Bhuiyan recalls, “I felt somber because, as I mentioned easier, it felt like everyone came together to see each other off and have a fun time through everything we did at the banquet with the past four years playing in my head.” Bhuiyan was awards highest honors and along with the other STEM seniors, felt accomplished and cherished that night.
As the seniors prepare for their next chapter of their lives, their communities they’ve built here at NHHS still honor them and recognize all their accomplishments over these last four years. These seniors aren’t just leaving their underclassmen and their beloved teachers, they are leaving their mark on NHHS. Congratulations to the class of 2026!
