Baseball season is approaching the end of the 2024 Spring Season, and our North Hollywood Huskies’ are looking forward to senior night against rivals, Grant High School. Our Huskies are having a great season, as their league record consists of seven wins, and only one loss.

One of the most memorable games for any high school athlete, senior night, will take place on Wednesday, May 1, against one of North Hollywood’s rivals, Ulysses S. Grant High School.

While most players look forward to this game, which allows them to celebrate the hard work and dedication which they have put towards playing their sport, it is also a very emotional moment, as the seniors will be playing their last home game of their final season.

When asked how he feels about the upcoming senior night game, first basemen Nico Bautista, who played on the team for all four years of high school said,  “It’s sad, I’ve grown a brotherhood with these guys, but everything has to come to an end at some point. I’m just preparing myself right now, because I know it’s gonna be a sad night”.

Richard Ruvalcaba, a senior, plays left field and has been with the team for three years. “I’m gonna feel very sentimental about leaving the team, because I’m never gonna experience high school baseball again, and I’m going to miss my teammates”.

Being on the baseball team has been a great experience, as the players have enjoyed being on the team both on and off the field, and have developed great relationships with their teammates. Ruvalcaba adds, “I’ve enjoyed being on the field, but being off the field and having a bond with my teammates is what I liked most about this team. I didn’t just see them as teammates, but as best friends too”.

Bautista shares his favorite part of being on the baseball team. “Growing the brotherhood; making memories. Going to San Diego was a big one, it was really fun playing with the team, spending day and night with them. It’s a good time”.

Although the seniors may be leaving this year, the impact that they have made on their underclassmen teammates will stay. Max Koster, a junior, who plays pitcher for our Huskies Varsity baseball team, shares how the Class of 2024 players have influenced the team. “At the start of the year, we struggled and fought through hard losses, but the seniors have been great leaders, and gave this team a spark. We always have fun everytime we come out to fight for our team”.

Koster adds that seeing the seniors leave will be an emotional moment for the whole team. “ It’s going to be a really sad experience seeing the seniors go this year. This group has made my year easy and fun”.

The game against Grant High School on Wednesday will be an exciting match for our Huskies, as they look to continue to work towards winning the league. Koster adds, “We hope to keep this momentum going for the rest of the year”.

After the game, the seniors will be joined by their friends and families, and the ceremony will take place. While it is a bittersweet moment for not only the seniors, but even for their teammates and coaches. Senior Night is a special game, followed by a ceremony, which will capitalize on their time on the North Hollywood High School boy’s baseball team. It will surely be a day which will stay in their memory for years to come.
