This season, our Boys Basketball team has demonstrated what it truly means to compete with the heart. The Huskies have shown tremendous growth both on and off the court, and with their commitment to teamwork, sportsmanship has been shown in every game throughout the season.

With an overall score of 15-14, the team has shown determination for each other in the game. But beyond the scoreboard, this team represents leadership and friendship, with each player contributing skill.
Shooting guard, Noah Logan (#3) explains that throughout the season, he had to step into a bigger role when it came to this year’s season. Logan states, “This year I had to work two times harder when it came to playing against our opponents.” Logan also expresses how glad he was to have a team able to help through this season, because basketball is more than just a score.
Additionally, Guard, Shamal Wickramarathna (#15) talks about how he got hurt at the beginning of the season and wasn’t able to play for the first half of the season. Once he was able to get cleared by his doctor he was very eager to get back on court. He then explained how he had to stop negotiating with himself and just lock in once he was back in the game.
Wickramarathna says,“I knew if I wanted to get back to where I was, I had to put the work in every day.” After watching his teammates complete, it brought Wickramarathna motivation to get back onto his feet.
With their hard work making it to the playoffs, it soon ended in a match up against Venice High School, with a score of 64-73.

Alongside that, our Lady Huskies have officially won the city championship against Harbor Tech and won with a score of 59-55. Truly a season filled with hard work.
Throughout the season, the team has shown major growth by guiding each other through the games and embracing their energy. Power forward Jayla Ajugwo (#20) says, “To prepare for any game, the team makes sure not to get in their own heads before the game.” She also explains that before the game, they enjoy meditating as it helps them prepare mentally.
In addition to preparing for the game, Ajugwo explains, “before the game, I like to listen to rain sounds and make sure to reassure my teammates and myself that we are still a good team.” Through this advice, the team thinks as one and they work better as one.

Similarly, shooting guard Emma Padilla (#10) explains, “When I prepare for a game, I often get nervous, but try my best to distract myself by talking with my teammates”. Padilla also explains that listening to music before games helps her relax and clear her mind.
Along with that, Padilla also explains, “I keep myself motivated by setting goals for myself and always trying to get better individually, as well as for the team.”
As the season comes to a close, we celebrate their incredible journey both teams have experienced together. With the girls winning division two championships, both girls’ and boys’ basketball have shown what it means to have passion and dedication in each player.
